The first step towards your new opportunity
One of the most overlooked steps in applying for new opportunities is what you are sending out.
Yes, where you send your information matters, but more importantly, WHAT you send out is much more important. You will be judged on what they read about you because people, unfortunately, make snap-based judgments ALL THE TIME.
Having a great resume is crucial to ensure the best possible chance to get opportunities.
When thinking about how to craft your resume, you always start with initial designs. Be creative as you want and think about the best way to present yourself. Put it on paper and see which one you get drawn toward the most, in the most professional way possible.
A resume should include some very basic guidelines, like what your education is/was, where your experience was, and what skills and abilities you like to show off. After that, make sure you have a good spot for your contact information. The top four sketches are very straightforward and have more traditional features, for example, education, experience, and skills are going from the top to the bottom, but the layout is slightly changing. The bottom four (except for the second from the left), are quite unique, where the information is laid out all over the place and the design is what captures the eye. The second from the left is still pretty traditional, yet everything is boxed off from one another, creating a very closed-off feeling when reading each section.
Regardless of which design layout you intend to work with, this step is crucial as it allows an overview of what stands out and what doesn't. This is crucial to understanding what resumes employers will be drawn to upon first glance.
Noah,
ReplyDeleteThese designs are strong. The text lines were well places and the space is used up well. In the last two designs it seems reading may be difficult. Would you put the text the way you have it placed in the drafts, sideways in a way? It may be more visually appealing if the text was straight across. Strong work!
The outline for thumbnail 7 is a unique eye-catching design. It is the strongest of the 8 and I believe if the direction of the words were in a different placement it would be easier to read.
